comprises government, private, and academic entities interested in having access to an
instrumented monitoring system for the Hudson River Estuary.
HRECOS seeks to
- Identify and address the needs of multiple users;
- Build upon existing governmental, private and academic monitoring and observing
activities and capacity on the Hudson already established through the

Center for Maritime Systems (Stevens Institute of Technology),
Hudson River Foundation,
Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (Columbia University),
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration,
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation,
U. S. Geological Survey,
and others;
- Improve the capacity of governmental and research entities to manage river and
estuarine resources and understand ecosystem processes;
- Provide a backbone of basic monitoring dataset and products necessary for applied
research for modeling and innovative technological capabilities of the future;
- Provide govenment, policy makers, and the public, with timely datasets and data
products to guide decision making.
